What Do You Think Of Child Beauty Pageants?

Should we be teaching our daughters that in order to be “beautiful” they need a spray tan, fake eye lashes, fake teeth, fake hair, and a ton of make up?

Child beauty pageants creep me right the F out. Little girls should be playing with barbies, not being barbies. It sends the message that being pretty will get anything you want, and I’ve rarely seen a kid in one of these that didn’t have a “help me” look on their face. I saw a documentary on child pageants that almost made me sick, how much hell these parents put their kids through. They’re acting through these kids to try prove…well I don’t really know what. But if it weren’t for these pageants we would not have Little Miss Sunshine, so grain of salt I guess. (Btw, I’m against adult beauty pageants as well)

I’m against them.not only are we playing dress up with them and ruining their hair and skin with all the make up and hairspray we are also teaching them moves that only a 20 year old knows.we are also teaching them that only if you are considered beautiful do you have worth.very sad. A pretty face does not make for a pretty person .If you ever notice its more the moms wanting them to do the pageants and the kids crying the whole time they are getting ready.its like the mothers need some kind of validation that their little girls are cute.the pageants are part of the reason Jonbet is dead in my opinion.any weirdo can walk in there and gawk at these little girls.

I really don’t like them! To me it’s appalling to see so much makeup and such sexy outfits on such young children. I was watching a show on child beauty pageants and this little girl (7/8 I think) was having glamor shots done. She was wearing so much makeup that she looked 16! And here’s the mother talking about how hard it is to see her look that old! Seriously, if you’re even starting to think that way, obviously it’s not a good idea!
It seems children are looking oversexed younger and younger these days. Very sad, in my opinion.
Sorry, you struck a nerve. :)

Probably not! However, I did them as a child and it helped me establish self confidence. I never have trouble public speaking, as other people do. As long as it is balanced will steady parenting and consistent lessons on where true beauty is its harmless.

it’s pretty sad. it’s a bunch of mothers who for some reason didn’t get a chance to be in one or were in one and placed last. they are children for crying out loud. i can’t believe some mothers put make up on some small child, and make her look like some hooker, tramp..they are trying to make their kid live out their dreams, not the children’s.

i live in canada, and honestly i’ve never seen them here. i live on the prairies, and there was never the chance for me to be in them. (when i was like 6 i really wanted to do the make up dress up thing) now that i’m older i see why people have issues with it. but it’s not even an option where i live so it’s all good.

I dont think you should tell them that is the only way to be pretty. With my daughter I just tell her that its just for the stage, that she is beautiful with out all of it, but for the competition you get to dress up! She likes doing it and knows that she is beautiful no matter what.

i see no problem with dat. ur child benefits in many ways, including self steem, future dreams and much more.
beauty can be hard work. Just dnt force ur baby to do wat yuh want. if yur baby enjoys it , is a great start

You forgot about those outfits and shaking their tush. I would think that would instill the idea that they need to present themselves in certain ways like this, as well.

I think child beauty pageants are a form of child abuse.
