Does Becoming Sexually Active At A Young Age Increase Your Chance Of Cervical Cancer?
I lost my virginity at 15 and I am now 25, I was just wondering if its true that loosing your virginity early increases the risk?? I am still waiting to have my first smear..
Any advice would be great…
Thanks!

I don’t think it makes any difference, it depends on who you have sex with.
Most cases of cervical cancer are caused from the sexually transmitted HPV virus.
No body knows if they have the virus (which can be passed on sexually or other contact ways)
It is a common virus and it is a matter of whether your body can fight it or not.
I wouldn’t worry about losing your virginity at 15 (you sure aren’t the only one)
When you do get your smear test make sure you have them every two years.
Don’t worry i’m sure you will be fine.
EDIT:
I don’t know why I am getting so many thunbs down, I am speaking from what I know (I have had it) and from the facts given to me.
Please read up on it if your unsure at; the cancer research website.

It can have an effect, but doesn’t really have to do with age. If you lose your virginity at 15, your more likely to have more sexual partners throughout your life. The more sexual partners you have, the more likely you are to contract a form of HPV (human papilloma virus) which is responsible for causing cervical cancer. Also, the younger you are, the less likely you are to use protection. Teens have a tendency to think that they are immune from STI’s and “if he pulls out, I’ll be fine”. All of these are contributing factors and that’s why they tell you that if you lose your virginity at a young age, you are at higher risk for cervical cancer. And you really should have had a pap smear when you were 15 and lost your virginity. It’s really important for you to go as soon as you can!

Yes, the earlier you lose your virginity the more partners you are likely to have, making you more likely to catch an STD. The HPV virus is EVERYWHERE. Me and two of my friends have it, and those are just the friends I KNOW OF that have it (and I’m also 25 and have not had many partners—lost mine at 20). I’ve heard that lots of people carry the HPV virus. Apparently about 25% of the population has it. My aunt, who definitely did some bed-hopping in her day, is dying of cervical cancer right now. Be sure to stay on top of getting your annual paps so that if anything does develop it will hopefully be caught sooner than later. If you don’t already have HPV GET THE VACCINE.

Yes, it does increase your chances. One reason is because of the HPV virus. It is very common amongst young sexually active individuals. Have you heard of Gardisil? You are still in the age range to receive the shot. It doesn’t prevent cervical cancer, but can help. Good luck

Just find out first what your situation is. All you can do now is find out as soon as you can whether you have it or not, and if you do sometimes they can get rid of the cancer before it’s too late. If you don’t have the cancer, get vaccinated. It’s good you’re having a smear test now

Yes it’s been proven to increase the risk. The more sexual partners you had at a younger age, the higher the risk of you getting cervical cancer and there is a vaccine out now but it only works if you take it before you have sex..lol..so yeah, if i was a chick id do papsmears regularly…the sooner you catch the bastard, the better your chances are of survival..so they say. =]

Yes it does and the more partners and longer your at it increases the risk further.
