Could This Be Breast Cancer?

I’m 37 and I recently found a lump in my breast. The last week or so it has become painful and skin is hot to the touch and I noticed that the top of the nipple is inverted. Could this be cancer. My mother had breast cancer 5 years ago and had a masectomy. I’m really worried. I do have an appointment with my GP next week. I also have reactive arthritis, started in July 08 but doesn’t seem to settle down.

i would love to wave a magic wand so you did not worry until your appointment next week. all i can say is think positive and if the news is bad then treatments are far more advanced now than even 5 years ago…..anyone here giving you an answer would only be guessing………..so good luck and talk to family or friends or even cancer backup for some support until you get your diagnosis

As a rule the redness and painful lump in the breast is going with the inflammation of the lactiferous ducts and glandular tissue of the breast which sometimes associated with inversion of the nipple ( due to fibrosis formed by the inflammation ). Now I think a breast ultrasound examination, followed by a mammography is recommended to ensure it is a benign lesion ( Regard any breast lump as a malignant until it profess the reverse ).

I think you should have a mammogram to see if you have breast cancer or not. Good luck!
