Are there different kinds of cancer, or are they named only due to the site they invade?
I know about small cell/large cell, but my mom said my grandmother had two types of uterine cancer, one was a very rare form and the other , a super fast growing one.. Is she just mistaken?

they are both called uterine because of the site, but the doctors will further differentiate them by cell type and origin, squamous etc.

there are different kinds of cancer ./1/ cerivical cancer / 2/ colen cancer/ .3. pospate cancer/ ln males /4/ liver cancer/ 5/ male cancer as well female cancer the frmale cancer spreads faster and can be transmitted to others as well go to this likks below. www. cancer/ org www. diferentcancercells/ com

there are numerous types of cancer and numerous locations , cancer cant be put under one catagory . i wish your family well , i will keep you in my thoughts……….god bless

they are named to location, and type.
I had Lymphoma, the cancer was in my lymph nodes, but the complete name was
Nodular Sclerosing Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Often the Dr’s don’t say the complete name for sake of not confusing the patient

Cancer is not just named for their location but also for the type of tumor cell they have. In general there are four major types of cancer cells:
Leukemia – cancer of the blood
Carcinoma – most common, organs in body
Sarcoma – rare, bone and soft tissue (fat, muscle, etc)
Lymphoma – common, cancer of the lympth nodes
Brain tumors are in a somewhat different category and can be benign, malignant, and still be serious.
In general there are over hundreds of different types of idenfified cancers. Bascially, any cell in the human body has the potential to become cancerous. Some cancers are exceedingly rare, some cancers are predominately childhood relatd, other cancers affect only the elderly, some are genetic, some are caused by the environment (asbestos), and some cancers have no known cause at all.
Cancer is also staged and the tumors graded according to how much cancer is present and how abnormal the cells look under a microscope. A stage 1 localized tumor is easier to treat than a stage 4 cancer that has multipled and spred throughout the body.
It is very possible that you grandmother had two types of uterine cancer, especially if she relapsed. Relapsed cancer has a way of mutating and becoming almost a different cancer which is why chemotherapy can suddenly stop working for a patient.
